Philip Shimko is originally from New York, but now resides in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. He attained his MFA at Montclair State University in New Jersey in 2003, where he now teaches. He has had his work exhibited in galleries throughout the metropolitan New York area, and was recently awarded a much sought after place in New American Paintings (2006 Mid-Atlantic Edition).
He views his painting as vehicles of self reflection: “Discovery is another component of my work - for myself and for the viewer. The paintings represent an image that is locked within, and requires the motivation of the viewer to be found. The motivation is my continual search, a search through painting, to get to the bottom of myself.”
