Joan Wadleigh Curran was born in Paterson, New Jersey in 1950. She received a Bachelor degree in Art from Skidmore College, and later went on to receive her MFA from Yale University. Curran has exhibited her work in galleries across the northeast, as well as in museums such as the New Jersey State Museum and the Delaware Art Museum. Curran was recently featured in New American Paintings (2005 Mid-Atlantic Competition).
Curran’s paintings reveal the abandoned and ignored periphery of our urban environments. When presented in this cropped style, her work takes on a surreal quality.
